Revision of the international standard ISO 9001: 2015 “Quality management system. Requirements".

On July 29, 2020, an Internet survey of users of the international standard ISO 9001: 2015 “Quality Management System. Requirements". The purpose of the survey is to understand the current and future needs of this standard in order to find out what users think about the current version of the standard and to understand. what new materials should take place in the next edition. The ISO 9001 User Survey was conducted from July 29, 2020 to December 31, 2020 and received 8,397 responses from people and organizations representing a wide range of sectors from 149 countries, including Kazakhstan.

The survey was conducted by Task Force 5, established by the committee responsible for ISO 9001, ISO Technical Committee 176, Subcommittee 2 (ISO / TC 176 / SC2).

The survey resulted in a full ISO 9001 user survey report, which shows that survey users continue to value ISO 9001. It also shows that users want an improved standard, providing greater clarity on business-critical issues. such as change management and business continuity.

Most of those calling for the revision of ISO 9001: 2015 have proposed a small amendment related to change management, business continuity and the integration of various management systems. Amendments related to new technologies, people and culture, ethics and integrity were mentioned in the responses of users to a lesser extent.

The results of the 2020 ISO 9001 user survey were one of the key points considered by the ISO / TC 176 / SC2 Strategic Planning and Operations Working Group (SPOTG) in recommending that ISO 9001: 2015 should be validated after its systematic review.

Results

Analysis of the survey responses shows the following:

Nearly half (42%) of respondents chose not to revise ISO 9001 at this time over the option to revise the standard now, which was supported by 37% of respondents.

A large number of responding organizations stated that they have no problems complying with ISO 9001 requirements, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

New topics are supported and will be addressed in future versions of ISO 9001.

Following a systematic review of ISO 9001: 2015, the ISO / TC 176 / SC 2 Strategic Planning and Operations (SPOTG) Working Group recommended the following:

 ISO 9001: 2015 should be "validated" unchanged;

 - the project should be started at a preliminary stage to check whether the revision of ISO 9001 should start earlier than is usually determined by the systematic review process.

Voting closed on May 1, 2021 and the recommendations were approved.

In addition, ISO is developing a core standard, ISO 9004, which provides guidance for organizations looking to move beyond ISO 9001, as well as other guiding standards such as ISO 10005, ISO 10006 and ISO 10007.
