Do not neglect receipts after shopping in stores and leave them at the checkout. This is not a useless "piece of paper" at all, but a guarantee and protection of consumer rights, says Alexandra Kasatkina, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Law at the National Research University Higher School of Economics.
"The check is, first of all, proof of the purchase, proof that the "purchase and sale" transaction was successfully concluded, the seller received an appropriate monetary reward, in return giving the buyer the goods of interest to him," the expert emphasizes.
Of course, you can return the product without a receipt, according to the Consumer Protection Law, but the return process will be delayed, since the store will need time to "raise" all transactions for a certain period.
You need to be even more responsible with checks issued by ATMs. Such checks may contain personal data of the client. For example, a phone number or the last digits of a bank card. This information is enough for cybercriminals, Kasatkina notes.
The specialist also draws attention: "if for some reason an ATM gives you a counterfeit bill, then it is the check that can save you from litigation with law enforcement agencies and help you recover the damage."
