Who will pay the luxury tax in Kazakhstan?

The press service of the Ministry of Finance of Kazakhstan informed about plans to introduce a luxury tax, revealing the details of the proposal, Standard.kz reported.

The issue of introducing taxation on luxury goods will be worked out at the site of the Ministry of National Economy.

In particular, it is proposed to consider the introduction of increased taxation on vehicles of high-value luxury models, such brands as, for example, Aston Martin, Bentley, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati and (according to the established list) by introducing increasing coefficients to vehicle tax rates depending on the cost (above the established limit) and the year of manufacture of the car, and the increase in the registration fee. At the same time, all benefits should be excluded for such vehicles," the ministry's press service explained.

In addition, owners of yachts, aircraft, real estate in large cities and resort areas can be included in the list of luxury tax payers.

For the first time, they started talking about the luxury tax in 2021: then Senator Marat Bakhtiyaruly said that the gap between the poor and the rich had become very noticeable during the years of independence. This was the reason for the drafting of the bill. And in January, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that 162 people in Kazakhstan own half of the country's wealth.
