Kazakhstan plans to unite electricity markets with EAEU countries

Kazakhstan plans to unite the electricity markets with the EAEU countries. The relevant bill was approved by the Mazhilis of the Parliament. The Ministry of Energy also plans to restore obsolete trunk and regional networks, Standard.kz reports.

The integration of the national networks of the EAEU countries will allow Kazakhstan to strengthen its own energy system. The document will only describe the rules of interaction with partners, they should be clear and understandable. The Ministry of Energy is currently working on this.

“The effect of the creation of the electricity market will be expressed in an increase in the efficiency of the use of generating and transmission capacities, an increase in the volume of mutual and foreign trade in electricity. It is also expected that competition among energy-producing organizations will increase,” said Bolat Akchulakov, Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The bill will not raise prices. Now the cost of electricity in Kazakhstan is about one and a half times lower than in Russia and Belarus, and almost two times less than in Moldova and Armenia.
