In Kazakhstan's food security legislation, socially significant food products are defined as "food products that provide for meeting the needs of the human body for basic nutrients and energy to maintain an active and healthy life, the list of which is approved by the government of the Republic of Kazakhstan."
The legislation provides for state monitoring of prices for socially significant food products.
